What materials are suitable for sheet metal processing?
What is sheet metal processing?
Sheet metal is a processing technology. Sheet metal is a comprehensive cold working process for sheet metal (usually below 6mm), including cutting, punching/cutting/composite, folding, riveting, splicing, forming (such as automobile body/frame), etc. Its remarkable feature is the part has same thickness.
The characteristics of sheet metal processing
Sheet metal has the characteristics of light weight, high strength, conductive (can be used for electromagnetic shielding), low cost, good mass production performance and so on. It has been widely used in electronic appliances, communications, automobile industry, medical instruments and other fields, such as computer cases, mobile phones, MP3, sheet metal is an essential component. With the application of sheet metal more and more widely, the design of sheet metal parts has become an important part of the product development process. Mechanical engineers must master the design skills of sheet metal parts, so that the design of sheet metal not only meets the requirements of product function and appearance, but also makes the stamping die manufacturing simple and low cost.
What materials are suitable for sheet metal processing?
There are many sheet metal materials suitable for stamping processing, which are widely used in the electronic and electrical industry, including:
1. SPCC
SPCC means that the ingot is continuously rolled into sheet or sheet of required thickness by cold rolling machine. SPCC surface does not have any protection, exposed to the air is easy to be oxidized, especially in the humid environment, the oxidation speed is accelerated, dark red rust appears, when using the surface to spray paint, electroplating or other protection.
2. SECC
SECC is the general cold rolled steel coil. After degreasing, pickling, electroplating and various post-treatment processes in the continuous electric galvanizing production line, it becomes the electric galvanizing product. SECC not only has the mechanical properties and similar workability of common cold rolled steel sheet, but also has superior corrosion resistance and decorative appearance. In the electronic products, home appliances and furniture market has a great competition and replacement. For example, computer cases commonly use SECC.
3. SGCC
SGCC hot dip galvanized steel coil refers to the hot rolling pickling or cold rolled semi-finished product, after cleaning, annealing, immersed in a temperature of 460°C zinc bath, and zinc coating the steel sheet, and then after tempering and leveling and chemical treatment. SGCC material is harder than SECC material, less ductile (avoid deep pumping design), thicker zinc layer, and less weldability.
4. ITS 301
The content of stainless steel SUS301Cr (chromium) is lower than that of SUS304, and the corrosion resistance is poor. But after cold processing, it can obtain good tension and hardness, good elasticity, and is mostly used for shrapnel spring and EMI prevention.
5. SUS304
Stainless steel SUS304 is one of the most widely used stainless steels. Because of Ni (nickel), it has better corrosion resistance and heat resistance than steel containing Cr (chromium), and has very good mechanical properties, no hardening after heat treatment, and no elasticity.
